About the event

CHRCL hosted a one on one training session with an individual on trauma informed lawyering, from intake interviews to preparing a client for testimony. Dr. Juliana Ybarra discussed what trauma is and how it can affect memory, trust, and a person's participation in their case. She provided guidance for working with and supporting clients with trauma. Laura Hernandez discussed the dos and don'ts for lawyers working with clients with trauma, drawing on her lived experience with incarceration and immigration detention and her years of experience leading participatory defense networks, advocacy campaigns, and a national immigrant rights nonprofit. The webinar also covered legal challenges to adverse credibility findings and other precedents protecting clients with trauma.
